Gratitude isn’t about ignoring hard moments. It’s about noticing what remains steady, supportive, or life-giving in the midst of them.

When emotions run high, we can become focused on what feels difficult, uncertain, or overwhelming. Grounding ourselves in gratitude creates space to notice what is also present. It might be a moment of ease, a supportive person, a small comfort, or something that simply went well.

The hard thing can still be hard.

Gratitude simply reminds us that it isn't the only thing we are carrying.

Simple Practice

At the end of each day, pause and name one moment that brought you ease, comfort, or connection.

Write it down or say it aloud.

You don't have to make a long list. Just notice one thing that felt good, steady, or supportive and allow yourself to sit with it for a moment.

Pause & Reflect

What is one thing that has been sustaining me lately that I may not have stopped to notice?

Sometimes getting back to zero begins with noticing what is still good, even on days that are not so easy.

Notice what is sustaining you. Give it space to matter.

That's where the practice begins.

Dr. Joy
