Giving Voice to Your Feelings
Sep 08, 2026
Sometimes we know we're feeling something before we have the words to describe it. Maybe we're irritated by a conversation, anxious about what comes next, tired after a long day, or even proud of ourselves for something we almost overlooked.
Giving our emotions a name can help us understand what is happening within us. Simply saying, “I'm feeling frustrated,” or “I'm feeling anxious,” allows us to notice the emotion rather than immediately respond to it.
In the Back to Zero Framework, awareness begins with noticing ourselves. Naming what we feel is one small way to practice that awareness.
Simple Practice
Once each day this week, pause and name what you're feeling.
You can say it out loud, write it down, or simply acknowledge it to yourself.
“I'm feeling tired.”
“I'm feeling proud.”
“I'm feeling overwhelmed.”
Just notice the emotion without trying to fix it.
Pause & Reflect
What do I notice when I give my feelings a name?
You don't need to have the perfect word every time. Be curious about what you're feeling.
Notice it. Name it. Give it a little space.
That's where the practice begins.
