Joy and Courage

Joy Works Playlist Pick-Alright by Ledisi

My thoughts are on courage this season. During this time of year we constantly think about how to take care of others. How will I show up for everyone? Will there be enough food for everyone? Who's coming and who's not? Who will blend and who will not? What else is there to buy? Is the house clean enough? The list goes on and on.

What's on your mind today?

Last year, I decided not to host Thanksgiving and just have an intimate family dinner. The world didn't fall apart, and it felt so good. Do you know I actually hosted for 14 years...in a row? I hosted through all circumstances, small children, personal financial issues, job changes, and so on and so forth. There were years I could have used a break...just never considered it. It takes courage to set boundaries, offer new ways of celebrating the season, and most importantly to take care of our whole self during this time of giving.

What is that one courageous step that you need to take to honor your joy today?

What does it look like? What do you need to communicate?

Whatever circumstances you are navigating during this season, my hope is that you remember your joy. This takes courage. It takes courage to embrace joy no matter who shows up and who does not, to remember your value in all circumstances, to find a loving space if you feel alone, and to CHOOSE to blend or not to blend, to buy or not to buy, or host or not to host. It's going to be alright either way.

It takes courage to honor your joy. Be Bold!

Love, Dr. Joy
